Caring for Your Braces

Caring for your Braces

Page Cartoon Teeth.png

Now that your smile is under construction, there are a few things to remember...

Braces are glued to your teeth and sometimes the glue does not adhere perfectly to your tooth and can present challenges. There are many things that can influence this but never fear–if your bracket is broken or you are experiencing any issues with your braces, we can fix it at the office at your earliest convenience. If you experience an emergency with your braces, call or text the office for guidance. We always have a staff member available to handle your inquiry.

Taking care of your braces is an important job that can mean the difference between a stunning new smile and one with permanent stains and scars on your new teeth.

Brush & Floss

While in treatment it is super important to brush and floss as often as possible. We recommend brushing after every meal even if it means just using the tooth brush without toothpaste. If that's not possible, then rinsing your mouth out with water for 30 seconds is perfect.

Flossing is a little more challenging with braces, but with practice you'll become a pro! Be sure to floss every night before bed, as this will help prevent cavities between those beautiful pearly whites!!

Sensitivity

If your teeth become sensitive to hot or cold then let Dr. Reece know. He will be able to give you a tube of prescription toothpaste to aide with sensitivity.

Foods to avoid

Lastly, some foods are to be enjoyed after braces in order to prevent brackets from breaking off your teeth. Some foods to avoid while in treatment are:

  • Chewing on ice

  • Pizza crust

  • Peanut M&Ms

  • Gummy Bears

  • Caramel

  • Hard foods (anything that would out muscle the glue that holds the brackets on the teeth)

We are excited to be a part of your journey! If you have any questions or concerns, just send us a text or give us a call!
